A BBC correspondent details the most recent £50 million move made by three Sheffield Wednesday contenders.

Sheffield Wednesday’s situation is finally improving, as three potential takeover bidders have reportedly committed £50 million to buy the team.

Now that the Dejphon Chansiri era is finally over, Hilsborough residents may finally relax. In support of their team, fans have rushed to the club shop, and players and staff have even received their paychecks one day early.

The mood at Hillsborough this weekend is expected to reflect a club coming together to at least celebrate the end of the toughest times, even though they are now sitting on -6 points in the Championship after going into administration.

Kris Wigfield, one of Begbies Traynor’s co-administrators, thanked supporters in a statement for their support and for helping the team to pay employees and players on time.

“This is a significant step toward stabilizing the club’s business and restoring confidence among our supporters and internally.

“Without the amazing support of you Wednesdayites, we could not have accomplished this. This has been made possible by your return to Hillsborough, the spike in ticket and merchandising sales, and your ongoing faith in the team.”

Given that they are 14 points below at the bottom of the Championship, it is pretty impossible to survive on the field, but in recent months, there has been serious worry that the Owls won’t be able to live off it. The end of the tunnel is now achievable.

Earlier this week, Wigfield disclosed: “As usual, there are a number of interested parties that most likely won’t fit the requirements, but out of all the queries we’ve had, we definitely believe that there are already four or five interested parties who appear to be the real deal.

“New owners must essentially meet two requirements in order to initiate communication and have the chance to submit an offer.”

Furthermore, it has been reported that three prospective parties have made a significant £50 million move to purchase the club.

Candidates for Sheffield Wednesday take a £50 million step

Rob Staton of BBC Sheffield claims that three applicants have now provided Sheffield Wednesday with £50 million in evidence of funding, which is a crucial step in the process of a possible acquisition.

Although the identities of those three individuals are yet unknown, John McEvoy and John Textor have been brought up this week.

After apparently getting in touch with those at Hillsborough, the latter sold his Crystal Palace shares in the summer and may now return to English football. Nevertheless, the American millionaire almost brought Lyon to Ligue 2 due to financial difficulties, so the Owls should proceed with extreme caution.

McEvoy, on the other hand, is a less certain choice. In addition to owning baseball and ice hockey teams, the American will be playing football for the first time. Unfortunately, he could have to wait in line to purchase Sheffield Wednesday since more are anticipated to show evidence of funds.
