Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, redeemed himself after his error against Brentford by preventing Ivan Toney’s ‘goal of the season,’ as stated by Match of the Day analyst Ashley Williams.

Ramsdale returned to the starting lineup for Saturday’s match at the Emirates Stadium, as David Raya was unable to play against his own team. Ramsdale made his first Premier League start since the previous meeting in November, during which he successfully prevented the opposing team from scoring in a 1-0 victory.

The goalkeeper’s aspirations of maintaining another clean sheet were thwarted shortly before halftime as he was swiftly approached by Yoane Wissa. Ramsdale failed to promptly position his feet, resulting in his clearance rebounding off the attacker and into the net, thus allowing Brentford to score the equalizing goal.

“He has replaced Raya and I believe he simply desired a calm day in the game today, but that is precisely what did not occur,” Williams informed Match of the Day. During the moments leading up to halftime, Gabriel receives the ball and attempts to pass it back. However, Wissa immediately applies pressure on him, causing Gabriel to take an excessive amount of time with the ball and ultimately getting caught by the opposition.

“He exhibits a behavior where, upon receiving the ball, his initial movements are incorrect, causing him to hesitate and take an excessive amount of time. Wissa, being aware of this, applies pressure on him, swiftly moves towards him, and as a result, the ball enters the goal. At this point, one sympathizes with him because it is evident that everyone is observing his performance.”

Arsenal secured a victory by earning three points, courtesy of Kai Havertz’s header in the 86th minute. However, Ramsdale deserves credit for preventing the opposing team from scoring by making a remarkable stop from Toney’s bold attempt.
