A former Tottenham midfielder says Ange Postecoglou can expect a lot of heat from his own fans if Tottenham defeats Manchester City and does Arsenal a huge favor.

If Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team manages to take the lead against Manchester City, the supporters will not be kind to him.

Before the Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where a City win would keep the title destiny in their own hands, there is much debate. If it’s anything less, Arsenal will have the upper hand going into Sunday’s final round of matches.

For many supporters, who have pledged to back City for the evening, the idea that Spurs, who must win to maintain their slim hopes of earning Champions League football, would be doing their fiercest rivals a great favor is unimaginable. Among them is former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who spoke with Ally McCoist on talkSPORT on Tuesday about the predicament.

“You’re telling me the Spurs fans are going to turn on Ange if they win tonight?” replied McCoist. “Big Ange is getting it if we go 1-0 up tonight,” O’Hara retorted. Hey Ange, chill out, this isn’t Celtic vs. Rangers. This is Arsenal vs. Tottenham.

“I’m not going on [talkSPORT show] the Sports Bar for the next three months having to deal with Arsenal fans piping up every five minutes saying how they’ve won the league and we handed them the title.”

Even if Spurs defeat Pep Guardiola’s team, they would still trail fourth-place Aston Villa by two points and would need a major favor from Crystal Palace, the Villans’ opponents on the final day of the season.

“Because you know what will happen, we’ll win tonight and then Aston Villa, they’ll go and beat Crystal Palace and we’ll finish fifth anyway,” O’Hara said, acknowledging that she will not be playing in the Champions League. That’s all there is to Spurs. The Champions League is over; I can take another season. Despite all the humor, I don’t believe the team is prepared for the Champions League.

“Take a look at Newcastle and Manchester United this season; they completely collapsed, finished last, and were eliminated from Europe. Playing Paco Rabanne and Ferrero Roche in the Europa League and possibly taking home a trophy makes me very happy.”

Postecoglou will undoubtedly be giving it his all to win on Tuesday. “My role is to bring success to this football club and whatever proportion, whether it’s his two mates or 99 percent of people you know,” the defiant Australian stated in a pregame speech.

“I am aware that every Spurs fan wants us to succeed, win, and take home championships. That is undeniably true, and if we win [again against City], we will be able to cheer on every Spurs fan in the world.”
