Rio Ferdinand, a legend of Manchester United, has hinted that players and supporters may be offended by Ruben Amorim’s decision to fire Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy was told on Monday that his services were no longer required. He had served as temporary manager for four games following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. The former United striker’s comeback to the team was brief, despite the fact that he did a good job in his role, winning three games and drawing one as Amorim finished his time at Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim, prepared to assume leadership at United, arrived in Manchester on Monday with his coaching staff from Sporting. He told Van Nistelrooy directly of his choice, and he is currently getting ready for his first game as manager, which is an away game against Ipswich on November 24.

Van Nistelrooy’s old United teammate Ferdinand commended the Dutchman’s recent behaviour. On Rio Ferdinand Presents, he stated: “His audition went incredibly well.

‘I’m going to put myself in the best position, either to stay at the club in some role or someone else is going to say we need you as a manager,’ I believe, because I know him. There was a steely determination behind that.

“He produced and looked the part. That was what the guys needed. There was a lot of upheaval at the time, the manager’s relationships with some players appeared to be broken and irreparable, and the supporters appeared to have decided that was it.

You normally get that bounce when the new manager takes over, but this one seemed a little different. There was a sincere “we want to do well for this guy” among the players, who had come to truly respect him and value the way he kept them informed about various details, whether tactical, individual, or team-related.
