BREAKING: Karim Benzema Names His Greatest Player in Football History

Published

on

Karim Benzema has responded to his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo’s assertion that he is the most complete footballer of all time. The Portuguese superstar sparked controversy on social media when he declared himself the greatest player of all time, ignoring Pele, Diego Maradona, and long-time rival Lionel Messi.

Many significant figures in the game have subsequently responded to the assertion, with Angel Di Maria entirely dismissing it, claiming that the renowned number seven was second best to Messi. Benzema, Ronaldo’s long-time understudy, has now spoken out on the topic.

Benzema Responds to Ronaldo’s Greatest Ever Claims

The Frenchman weighed on the topical discussion

When asked what he felt of his former striker partner’s comments, Benzema stated that he did not like making player comparisons and that Ronaldo had every right to think highly of himself. As translated by GOAL, the Al-Ittihad star stated:

“I believe everybody can say whatever they want. If he believes he is the greatest in history, then he is. I don’t like to compare players; each has their own tale, and he [Ronaldo] has a very nice one.”

Although Benzema stated that he did not like comparing players, he did tell who he considered to be the greatest player to ever put on a pair of boots.

Benzema Names Ronaldo Nazario As His Greatest Ever Player

The Brazilian was a two-time Ballon d’Or winner

Benzema expanded on his remark, revealing that Cristiano’s namesake, Ronaldo Nazario, was his vote for the best player of all time. The Brazilian was one of the most dominant attackers in the game’s history, and he is the only Brazilian to have won the Ballon d’Or twice, in 1997 and 2002.

Both Nazario and Benzema have worn the number nine shirt for Los Blancos, with Ronaldo scoring 103 goals in 177 appearances and his successor scoring 354 goals in 648 games, the second highest total in club history.
