Benjamin Sesko has given an explanation for his decision to remain at RB Leipzig in spite of interest from a number of Premier League teams, such as Manchester United and Arsenal.

With the signing of a one-year contract extension at Leipzig, the 21-year-old Slovenian forward put an end to speculation about his future and will remain at the Red Bull Arena until 2029.

Several teams showed interest in Sesko after he scored 18 goals for Marco Rose’s team in all competitions in 23–24, including Chelsea, who was prepared to activate his €65 million release clause.

Manchester United was still rumoured to be interested in the Slovenian international, but Arsenal was also prepared to pay the transfer money.

However, the former RB Salzburg attacker has decided to remain in Germany following months of rumours. Sesko gave Nogomania an explanation of his reasoning for the choice.

“I really well considered it,” he remarked. “I think I made the appropriate choice. I wanted to take my time, learn more, and get more experience. Leipzig is a top-notch team that can offer me what I need to advance.

“Leipzig has a very clear vision; everything is focused on development, advancement, and lofty objectives. I thought making this decision was appropriate.”

Sesko responded, “We spoke,” when asked if Leipzig coach Marco had any influence on his choice. He expressed his desire for me to stay, but he also advised me to make a decision based on how I felt. He advised me to stay if I didn’t feel like I needed to move on.

“He is a superb coach who has guided a number of outstanding players. I’m happy with my decision. I took this action prior to the Euro to maintain my composure and concentrate solely on the championship.”

Sesko was also questioned about how he was able to ignore the transfer rumours prior to signing a new contract with the Bundesliga team.

He went on, “It’s not that such things don’t enter your subconscious; in fact, it’s probably rather typical for humans. I managed to stay composed in spite of everything. I overcame that trying time and went into the Euro with all of my attention.”

Sesko stated to the Guardian back in 2023 that he would someday be willing to play in the Premier League.

“It’s hard to say what will happen,” he stated. “I may be really good or not so good. Naturally, it would be lovely to play there, but let’s put today’s priorities first and see what transpires later.
