Manuel Ugarte, a midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain, may be the third player Manchester United names in INEOS’ first transfer window. Joao Neves, a teenage player from Benfica, is allegedly on PSG’s radar. This move puts Ugarte closer to the exit door and lower on Luis Enrique’s pecking order.

The 23-year-old is reportedly United’s top midfield target as Erik ten Hag looks to add new talent to join Kobbie Mainoo.

However, it has been stated that PSG has been hesitant to let go of Ugarte for less than £59 million, even though they paid £51 million to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.

As the Ligue 1 winners are about to recruit an attractive midfield player, that position may soon change or at least soften.

PSG has reached an agreement with Benfica for Neves at a set cost of £50 million plus £9 million in add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Renato Sanches, who completed a £29.5 million transfer to Bayern Munich two years after graduating from Benfica’s academy in 2014, will return to the club as part of the arrangement.

According to the source, Neves will go to Paris this week for a medical examination before formally joining PSG.

Neves, who is just 19 years old, is regarded as one of Europe’s most gifted young midfielders and has already been connected to United.

However, the Uruguayan international Ugarte is apparently close to a signing with the Red Devils this summer, having already agreed to personal terms.

Neves’ move to the Parc des Princes might be a major development because PSG may need to balance the books in order to make room for other players.

Ugarte might push harder to leave the Parisiens if he believes he will have even less opportunities than he did in his debut season.

However, given the financial constraints imposed by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), United might need to make another sell in order to raise the necessary funds to finance a transfer.

Thus far this summer, INEOS has managed four high-profile departures, raising slightly less than £50 million from Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek, and Alvaro Fernandez.

But there are also three players in the shop window: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Scott McTominay. One of these three will be crucial to the arrival of a new midfield player in the M16.

McTominay’s lack of interest in Casemiro and Eriksen currently seems to be the main reason for his departure. Galatasaray and Fulham are two of his pursuers.

However, even if United is forced to postpone their pursuit of Ugarte, Neves’ arrival might have a significant impact.
