Former Barcelona and Manchester United player Gerard Pique has weighed in on the GOAT debate involving Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

One of the few players to play on the same field as the two greatest players of the modern era, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, is the center-half.

The Spanish player had a brief partnership with the Portugal international at Manchester United and experienced a fruitful period at Barcelona with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

‘Well, it’s true that the fight between them two in the last decade was quite impressive because both of them did incredibly well,’ Pique said to John Nellis’ YouTube channel in response to the question of whether the GOAT debate is over now that Messi outperformed Ronaldo by winning the World Cup in Qatar.

“I firmly believe that Messi is the most talented player out there.” Although Cristiano has put a lot of effort into trying to compete and fight for the top spot, if you look at the careers of both… Of course, my choice would be Messi.

He demonstrated that he is still capable of competing as the world’s best player at 35 years old. In the World Cup, he demonstrated it.

Allegations of discord between Messi and Pique regarding the Argentine’s transfer to PSG represented yet another unpleasant chapter in his romantic tale with Barcelona.

Prominent journalists, such as the editor of Sport, the official Barcelona football newspaper, expressed the opinion that although Messi had broken up with some of his clubmates, he had left other relationships intact.

According to Lluis Mascaro, Messi felt deceived by Pique, who had told Barcelona president Joan Laporta that it would be “okay if Messi left.” Messi felt betrayed by Pique.

When asked if he sent a congratulations message to Messi, his former teammate, Pique replied, “Well, not really.” I know it sounds crazy, but I really wasn’t paying attention to the World Cup. I had to step away from sports since I retired, so I only watched the championship game—not the entire thing.

I attempted to detach and took a brief vacation. After a difficult few months as a professional, I needed to take a break from football.
