Georgson has an impressive resume, having coached Brentford, Southampton, and Arsenal in set-piece duties. It is debatable if Ten Hag would select a new set-piece coach on his own. That is only for him to answer, and he has the option to respond politely in public.

Ten Hag is reportedly “much more involved” in set-pieces than his predecessors, and a set-play analyst’s role is claimed to foster collaboration in the process. Georgson’s appointment will alter the present set-piece strategy both on and off the pitch, and it appears that Ten Hag will have less influence.

In the Premier League the previous season, United scored nine goals from set pieces; only five teams were able to score less. Additionally, just five teams were worse than United’s 14 goals conceded in the league from set-piece situations, indicating the need for improvement.
