Marc Cucurella, a defender for Chelsea, has returned to Cobham to begin preseason training in front of the upcoming season.

After Spain defeated England in the Euro 2024 final on July 14, the left-back took two weeks off, but he has returned to work early in an attempt to win over new head coach Enzo Maresca. Under Mauricio Pochettino, Cucurella had a solid season-ending performance at the Blues. He took that form into the Euros, where he was a key member of Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

In fact, the 26-year-old assisted Mikel Oyarzabal’s late winner in the final match against the Three Lions. The player appeared in six of Spain’s seven Euro matches. Cucurella has returned to Cobham, but he is not going to travel to the United States to play with his Chelsea teammates.

Conor Gallagher, Cole Palmer, and Cucurella will instead reunite with the team upon their arrival back in London on Wednesday, August 7, after their match against Real Madrid. There’s a chance the three could play in the Blues’ last preseason game at Stamford Bridge on August 11 against Inter Milan. Only one week between Chelsea’s Premier League opener against reigning champion Manchester City and the match against Inter.

“No, none of them will be attending. They’re on vacation. Maresca remarked following Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Celtic on Saturday, “They deserve it.” “With Spain and England, they concluded later. They will be joining us on August 6. It’s likely that Marc will be the sole person arriving in Cobham a few days early. The others still have holidays, which they are entitled to.”

Cucurella returned to Chelsea’s training site on Monday, and he took to social media to confess that he could have slept in a few more days. Cucurella posted an image of the Blues’ gym along with the caption, “Back to the office.”

Cucurella obviously means business ahead of the 2024–25 season, so Maresca and his coaches will probably be impressed by the message. Under Pochettino, the defender demonstrated his ability to switch from left to back, and under Maresca, he may excel in that system once more.

Due to Cucurella’s stay in the United States, he will not actually meet the new Chelsea manager until next week, but they will nevertheless come into contact then. The left-back will undoubtedly be excited for the next season and ready to go by then.
