Breaking news: Rangers F.C.’s main player has been formally suspended from the Sports Cup semi-final versus Celtic.

Rangers will be without midfielder Connor Barron for their Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Celtic due to a ban.

The 21-year-old is out of Sunday’s highly anticipated game at Hampden Park after receiving two yellow cards earlier in the season.

Barron, who impressed in last weekend’s 1-0 victory against Hibernian, will have to watch his colleagues compete for a spot in the final against their Glasgow rivals.

His first booking came in the 78th minute of the last-16 tie against Alloa Athletic in August, and by pure coincidence, he was cautioned again in the same minute during the next round’s triumph against Hibs.

According to the Scottish FA’s Judicial Protocol for the 2025/26 season, players who enter the tournament at the knockout stage will receive a one-match ban after two yellow cards. This means Barron will serve his suspension this weekend.

The rules alter for clubs that begin in the group phase, when a ban is issued after only three bookings, but all cautions are cleared prior to the semi-finals.

With Barron out, Rangers manager Danny Rohl faces a critical midfield selection decision ahead of the match against Martin O’Neill’s Celtic.
