Cesc Fabregas shares a Mikel Arteta Arsenal achievement Arsene Wenger struggled with
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas claims that Mikel Arteta has been a revelation at the club, having accomplished feats that both Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery were unable to.
According to Cesc Fabregas, Mikel Arteta has eliminated the “toxicity” that was present at Arsenal towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s presidency and under Unai Emery’s leadership.
This season, Arteta has guided the north London club to the quarterfinals of the Champions League and the top spot in the Premier League. The turnaround under the Basque has been incredible, and while Liverpool and the defending champions Manchester City are vying for the title in what could be a historic title battle, Pep Guardiola’s team will host Arsenal in a major match on Easter Sunday.
Speaking with the BBC Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas said he thought the key was the way Arteta imposed his vision, which stifled other voices within the team that had different opinions. He also thinks Arsenal has significantly improved on the field as a result of the “standards” being repeated time and time again.
“I believe it to be very easy. Arsenal became a huge mess after merging,” Fabregas remarked. “I believe there were too many conversations. I would say that there was a lot of toxicity in the club. He [Arteta] just entered, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be in the club,” he stated through the Mirror.
“He assembled everything after coming up with an idea, a technique, and a play style. Despite being a young coach, he exhibited courage by putting everything together and declaring, “This is what I want to do; these are the standards.”
“I believe he keeps saying those things. He talks about his goals, his character, running, and standards during press conferences.”
Fabregas thinks that Arteta’s support of a young team has been crucial, as each player has demonstrated a stronger dedication to Arsenal. In previous seasons, there were rumors that certain players, who have since left, might not have given it their all.
The Spaniard who won the World Cup stated: “This is what he put in place – hardworking people, young people that really want to play for the badge, want to be there for the club, want to make the club grow.”
“He took away all this toxicity around the club that was hurting the players, was hurting the managers and he’s doing really well.”
After making about 200 appearances for Wenger’s Arsenal, Fabregas is currently the head coach of Como, a team in Serie B. Along with fellow ex-Gunner Thierry Henry, he shares ownership of the team.
