Chelsea
Chukwunonso Madueke, who currently plays for Chelsea, has recently agreed to transfer to Newcastle United in a deal valued at over ₦59 billion.
According to Soccernet.ng, Chukwunonso ‘Noni’ Madueke is close to departing from Chelsea, a prominent football club in London, and is set to join Newcastle United.
Noni Madueke joined Chelsea permanently in January 2023 after transferring from PSV Eindhoven, a Dutch club.
Despite a sluggish beginning in West London, Madueke displayed flashes of his exceptional abilities last season, netting six goals and contributing two assists in 29 matches.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old winger would have desired additional playing time, as he was only given the opportunity to start in 17 of those matches, playing a subordinate role to Cole Palmer.
Under the leadership of new manager Enzo Maresca, the current setup is expected to remain unchanged, with Palmer being highly likely to secure a starting position for the Blues.
Football Insider reports that Madueke has opted to leave and has reached an agreement with Newcastle United, where he aims to flourish under the guidance of Eddie Howe.
The 22-year-old assailant is presently accompanying Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the USA and participated in their 2-2 stalemate with Wrexham on Thursday, July 25th.
Newcastle is anticipated to at least equal the £29 million (₦59.6 billion) transfer fee that Chelsea paid to PSV, a prominent Dutch club, in order to secure his services last year.
Global opportunities
Madueke, who was born in Barnet, London, to parents of Nigerian heritage, is qualified to play for both Nigeria, the previous champions of Africa, and his country of birth.
He has previously represented England at the U16 to U21 levels and played a crucial role in the team’s victory at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last year.
Nevertheless, his journey to the national team of England is becoming more intricate because to the rapid ascent of Palmer, who even served as a backup to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka at Euro 2024.
However, in the case of Nigeria, Madueke can easily secure a place in the Super Eagles team as there are no formidable competitors, especially with AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze playing on the right wing.
