After two and a half years of success at Newcastle, Ashworth moved to Manchester United to oversee the club’s transfer business, as well as their football performance and day-to-day operations.

On the other hand, it is common knowledge that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s co-owner, had become irritated with his inability to make a decision.

Incredibly, the fee for Ashworth’s employment, as well as the subsequent pay-off, was £4.1 million, according to the figures that were disclosed by the Red Devils the previous week.

It was due in large part to Ashworth’s efforts that Erik ten Hag was given a new contract in the summer. However, the Dutchman was ultimately let go in October, which resulted in the club incurring a loss of £10.4 million in compensation for him and his staff.

In addition to this, he played a significant role in United’s spending spree of 183 million pounds during Ineos’ first transfer window.

United signed players such as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui; however, many of these players have not yet been able to meet the expectations that were set for them.

Just a few days after leaving Old Trafford, talkSPORT reported that Ashworth was being considered for the position of sporting director at Everton.

However, a move to Goodison Park did not materialise, and The Times is now reporting that the former FA director is going to take on an advisory role at Warwickshire.

The fact that Ashworth joined the cricket club’s audit committee in 2021 has reportedly resulted in the establishment of a relationship between the two organisations.

Being a member of the committee brought with it the responsibility of exercising oversight over their high-performance structure and elite teams. This was an honorary role.

While the county of Warwickshire is in the process of selecting a new performance director, Ashworth is not in the running for the position.

This is despite the fact that he had previously held positions of a similar nature at West Brom and Brighton before he landed at Newcastle and United.

It is believed that the salary up for grabs is significantly lower than the salaries he received at his previous jobs.

Instead, Ashworth will utilise his previous experience in football to work on issues at Warwickshire, such as improving the team’s overall performance.

Furthermore, they will be hoping that Ashworth’s expertise will assist them in achieving a better result than their seventh-place finish in the County Championship championship in 2025.

Since the year 2021, the eight-time champions have not been able to claim the trophy.
