“Erik ten Hag doesn’t know anything about football he’s overrated…He has the best players in the League but always keeping him on bench”: Frank Lampard says Man United has the best player in the Premier League but Erik ten Hag doesn’t like starting him as he ordered the player to join Chelsea with immediate effect

Frank Lampard, a former midfielder, maintains that Gareth Southgate has made a “big deal” out of England’s inability to field Luke Shaw for Euro 2024.
Despite winning Group C and qualifying for the knockout stage, Southgate’s team has not shown much after two draws after a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Serbia.

Southgate seems to be considering his options ahead of Sunday’s last-16 match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen, as Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, and Anthony Gordon all made an impression when they came off the bench during the second half of the draw against Slovenia on Tuesday night.

Manchester United left-back Shaw, 28, is one player who hasn’t been accessible to the England manager thus far. The 28-year-old is currently recovering from a risky inclusion.

Without a player that is naturally left-footed starting there, England has found it difficult to threaten down that left-hand side, with Kieran Trippier of Newcastle United playing out of position there.

Lampard, a former midfielder for Chelsea and England, believes Shaw is the player that England has missed the most at Euro 2024.

“Not having a natural left-sided left-back has been a big deal for him,” Lampard stated on BBC Radio 5 Live. “Watching the last tournaments with Luke Shaw there felt really good.”

“We could have a balance where Kyle Walker could remain longer and create this three at the back. Luke Shaw was much more offensive on that side of the pitch.

“After that, you would have the two and have the offensive players with the left-hand threat between the lines.

He will want to find a solution because we haven’t had that.

“If the left-sider is comfortable enough to make the right pass, I think you can probably get away with right-footed center-backs on both sides,” Lampard continued.

“To be fair, I know Marc Guehi well, and I believe he can judge when to play into midfield or out to a full-back.

“I believe Trippier is a wonderful player who has shown it for his club and country, but you’re just expecting players to have different qualities.

“People may say, ‘You’re just talking about a left-back,’ but when we see the German team play these days, we can see how advanced both full-backs are in terms of style and technique. It’s crucial that you get those details correct.

“Gareth has certainly experienced it, given the significance of those minor things. He has made an effort to get Luke Shaw fit, however it is evident that this is not happening right now.

“However, it goes beyond simply stating, ‘That’s only one guy,’ as that impacts the team’s overall equilibrium.

Then perhaps the issue is what the alternative option is. Could we get that side that stays wide some more true high attacking width? You might get more dynamic runs in behind as a result. That’s definitely something he could consider, in my opinion.

One of the bright spots for England in this tournament has been Marc Guehi, the former Chelsea defender who now plays for Crystal Palace, who has been at ease on the international scene throughout the majority of the Three Lions’ first three games.

Lampard went on, “I’m happy for him. I made his Chelsea debut for him. He is such a humble and kind young man.

It was evident that he possessed every quality that would help him succeed, especially the disposition. His goal was to succeed.

“I thought it would be great to work with him as a coach at that age because it’s not often that a young child shows such humility and a desire to succeed.

However, he had to go and continue performing like he did at Palace before joining an England team under intense playing pressure. Everyone is saying, “Oh, we’re not sure,” yet he now has a position that we don’t discuss, which is a tremendous accomplishment for him.
