Erik ten Hag’s biggest gamble as Manchester United manager is finally paying off

After almost two seasons as Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag has seen significant changes.

Manchester United was in disarray when the Dutchman took over at Old Trafford. To be fair, he has steadied the ship and made the squad better going forward.

During the Ten Hag era, players like Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Kobbie Mainoo rose to prominence. These players should stay with the team for many years to come.

While some of his signings have proven successful, perhaps the biggest gamble he has taken as Red Devils manager thus far was one.

It was a major risk to banish David de Gea in favor of Andre Onana.
It was a huge decision to sign Inter Milan’s Andre Onana in the summer instead of sticking with club legend David de Gea.

Despite facing a lot of criticism in recent seasons, De Gea has emerged as one of Manchester United’s greatest players of the past ten years.

After 12 years at Old Trafford, even after winning the Premier League Golden Glove, Ten Hag made the decision that it was time for the Spaniard to leave.
