Gary Neville reveals Arsenal vs Bayern prediction and who he wants to win Champions League tie
The legendary player for Manchester United, Gary Neville, is skeptical that Arsenal can defeat Bayern Munich in their forthcoming Champions League quarterfinal matchup.
Although Gary Neville believes Arsenal will struggle against Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarterfinal match, he nevertheless wants them to win.
The Gunners take on the German powerhouses in the European Club Football Championship’s round of eight semifinals. Due to UEFA’s ban on Bayern supporters from the stadium following their last-minute fireworks-related incident against Lazio, the first leg of the match will take place at the Emirates in front of a stadium brimming with Arsenal supporters.
Mikel Arteta’s team has been playing well lately, having had an incredible start to the year. With seven games remaining, Arsenal leads the Premier League in goal differential as they look to win their first league championship since 2004.
That said, considering the Gunners have never won a Champions League in their otherwise remarkable history, the Emirates supporters may be even more desirous of one. However, Neville isn’t exactly sure that their wait for European cutlery will come to an end anytime soon.
The former Manchester United player praised Arsenal for their recent play but expressed concern that Bayern’s experience may cause Arsenal to lose in an interview with Gary Neville’s podcast. “These are proper performances that Arsenal are putting in,” he said.
“They are more than just shows that help them win games. You discuss the actual performance levels in each department; these are not just talk. From a defensive standpoint, even the match at the Etihad was a genuine performance.
As good as what you’ll witness. And everything about yesterday was so polished. A performance worthy of a title, where you simply go about your work. I hope Bayern Munich loses to Arsenal. Naturally, I do. Actually, I believe Arsenal will have difficulty playing Bayern Munich. I am aware that Bayern Munich is currently experiencing a terrible season in the Bundesliga.
“However, I simply have the impression that Arsenal will struggle in the second leg at the Allianz against the might and history. From the perspective that sometimes learning must happen in the Champions League, that might just be too much for them. I believe Arsenal might encounter that in the upcoming weeks; we’re not sure yet if that will be advantageous to them or not.”
Arsenal was victorious 3-0 away at Brighton on Saturday night, and they are in much better form going into their match against Bayern on Tuesday. Conversely, Thomas Tuchel’s team lost 3-2 to Heidenheim after giving up a 2-0 lead.
