Next week, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is anticipated to finalise the acquisition of Bologna defensive star Riccardo Calafiori.
Arsenal and Bologna have reportedly undertaken further negotiations today in an attempt to finalise the signing of Riccardo Calafiori, according to Fabrizio Romano. Terms have already been negotiated by the Gunners and the Italian team. Next week, the transfer is anticipated to be finished with all formal procedures.

Calafiori’s growth over the past 12 months has been very remarkable. On his return to Serie A, the AS Roma academy graduate had a fantastic first season with Bologna. He participated in 33 games and ultimately assisted on seven goals.

Due to his reliable performances, he was added to the Italian national team for the 2024 European Championship. Even though the Azzurri fell short of the expectations, Calafiori undoubtedly established himself at the back with some outstanding displays.

It attracted interest from several elite clubs in Europe. The 22-year-old defender told the Bologna board up front that he wants to go on and join a better team after returning from vacation. Calafiori is scheduled to sign with Premier League powerhouse Arsenal, despite early reports indicating that he would like to remain in Italy.

Next week, Arsenal will finalise Calafiori’s signing.
For some time now, the Gunners have been making great efforts to obtain his services. They recently succeeded in reaching an agreement with the Italian club, and they had previously reached personal terms with the player to join them on a five-year contract. In order to obtain his services, the North London club has agreed to spend €40 million in addition to another €5 million.

A player who has three years remaining on his contract with Bologna has been able to obtain a sell-on clause. Even after all sides agree on a move, there are still a few more things to work out. According to Romano, both clubs convened for fresh negotiations to finalise the agreement.

The Gunners are awaiting agreement on the current sell-on clause payment schedule from Bologna and Calafiori’s old team, FC Basel. The athlete will officially seal the deal by signing a document once his medical and last formalities are completed, which should happen the following week.
