Rory Finneran, a Blackburn Rovers player, is on the verge of joining Newcastle United. The Magpies have long been aware of Finneran’s interest in joining them as they look to bolster their youth team and discover future stars. Finneran, who played youth football for the Republic of Ireland, made his professional debut for Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup match against Cambridge United in January at the age of fifteen. In February, when Rovers and the Magpies met at Ewood Park, the midfielder substituted but did not participate. With a bright future ahead of him, the 16-year-old will soon be joining the Tyneside youth team, which has recently added players from all over England and Europe.

The good news for Finneran’s future is that there has been a “verbal agreement” made for him to move to Tyneside, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who spoke with X. “Rory Finneran (2008) has agreed to be signed by Newcastle. The gifted athlete will be joining the team from Blackburn Rovers. The head coach of the Republic of Ireland’s Under-17 squad has agreed in verbal terms to continue working on the Magpies project in the future.

Finneran barely turned 16 in the second half of the season, yet he was a regular player for Blackburn’s Under-21 squad. He has also participated in numerous games for the Under-17 Republic of Ireland squad.

Finneran is relocating to St. James’ Park to become a part of an academy run by new sporting director Paul Mitchell, which will focus on developing players.
