Mason Mount, a midfielder for Manchester United, is a “very good player,” according to Erik ten Hag, when he returns to full fitness.
Mount, a 36-time England international, moved from Chelsea to Manchester United for £55 million last summer, according to BBC Sport. However, a calf injury kept him out of action for much of the 2023–24 season.
Mount was limited to 20 games in all competitions, of which only 14 were in the Premier League (where he scored one goal) and of which he played just one minute against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Manchester United supporters were somewhat disappointed in the midfielder because of his difficulties, as he was left out of the England team that advanced to the Euro 2024 final.
Ten Hag believes Mount can win at Old Trafford.
Mount has already played 90 minutes in two summer preseason games for Manchester United, which is encouraging.
The 25-year-old has also been playing well; in games against Rangers and Rosenborg, he has combined to create four chances and had an assist.
And if he keeps healthy, Ten Hag thinks Mount might find his game again and become a vital member of Man Utd this season.
“I don’t judge Mason because he was injured, but when he is fit he will be a very good player,” the Dutchman said to reporters (via BBC Sport). In a squad, certain categories are essential. He is a versatile player who will undoubtedly benefit the team.
The Red Devils’ next preseason matchup is with Arsenal, their rivals, in California on Sunday at 1am (UK time).
