Shortly after giving United the early advantage by taking a seat on the grass, Hojlund was ejected off the pitch.

He signalled to the bench that he needed to be withdrawn and headed straight down the tunnel. Then, Gabriel Jesus matched the score for Arsenal, and Leny Yoro had to leave because of his personal injury worry.

Yoro became uneasy when the game was interrupted for a drink break after thirty minutes. He hobbled and shook his head.

Hojlund and he quickly withdrew back to the dressing room. Erik ten Hag’s Arsenal team won the second half following eleven replacements made at the half, and Gabriel Martinelli’s late goal sealed the victory.

Then there was a penalty shootout, which United won 4-3. Jadon Sancho scored the game-winning penalty kick for the Reds.
