Manchester United has officially confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag, the current manager of Ajax, as their new coach. The contract is set for a duration of three years and will commence at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Ten Hag, who will continue to work with Ajax until the conclusion of the season, has signed a deal that will last until June 2025, with the possibility of extending it for another year.

“Being appointed as the manager of Manchester United is a significant honor, and I am extremely enthusiastic about the upcoming challenge,” he expressed. “I am aware of the historical background of this esteemed organization and the fervor of its supporters, and I am fully committed to building a team that can achieve the level of success that they rightfully deserve.”

Ten Hag had a career as a defender for various Dutch clubs from 1989 to 2002. In 2012, he obtained his initial managing position with Go Ahead Eagles, a Dutch second-tier team at the time.

Ten Hag transitioned to coaching Bayern Munich’s reserve team in Germany after successfully guiding Go Ahead to the Eredivisie. In 2015, he went back to the Netherlands to oversee Utrecht and then assumed control of Ajax in 2017.

He has led the Godenzonen to two Eredivisie championships, and they currently hold the top position in the league standings with only five matches remaining in the current season. They now have a four-point lead over PSV Eindhoven in the race for the title.

Ten Hag emphasized the significance of resolving his future promptly in order to concentrate his efforts on the remaining matches of Ajax’s season, as stated by ESPN’s Rob Dawson.

“However, my sole focus at the moment is on these remaining five games,” he stated. “I aspire to conclude my tenure here on a positive note, by emerging victorious in the league.” By completing this, we will automatically qualify for the Champions League. Ajax is a suitable fit for the place.

After successfully completing that feat, he will next be confronted with the prospect of attempting to secure Manchester United’s first Premier League championship since the 2012-13 season.

The Red Devils have encountered difficulties in locating a suitable successor for the esteemed Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired subsequent to their most recent triumph in securing the title. Ten Hag will assume the role of the club’s fifth permanent manager following Ferguson’s departure.

Dawson was informed that Ten Hag presented a “persuasive and far-reaching plan” during his interview with the club.

Manchester United now occupies the sixth position in the Premier League standings, having accumulated 54 points. However, they still have the opportunity to secure a place in the top four, which would grant them entry into the UEFA Champions League. In order to do this, it is necessary to surpass both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, who currently have 57 points apiece.
