Following the 2-0 victory that Liverpool achieved over Manchester City, Jamie Carragher has been subjected to criticism for a comment that he made about Mohamed Salah.

With the victory at the Etihad Stadium, the Reds took another step closer to winning the Premier League title. Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scored goals in the first half of the match, which helped the Reds’ cause.

Alexis Mac Allister’s low cross was flicked on by Szoboszlai into the path of Salah, whose attempt at goal deflected off Nathan Ake and went beyond Ederson. This was the first goal that Liverpool scored, and it was a well-worked corner routine.

Salah then assisted Szoboszlai in scoring a goal from the edge of the penalty area, which Szoboszlai finished into the bottom corner of the net to make the score 2-0.

After suffering a defeat at the hands of West Ham United by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, Arne Slot’s team has now moved 11 points ahead of Arsenal, despite the fact that Mikel Arteta’s team possess a game in hand.

After the game, Liverpool legend Carragher provided his assessment of the Reds’ performance in Manchester. However, one of his remarks was challenged by fellow Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge. Carragher delivered his verdict on the Reds’ performance in Manchester.

Carragher made the following statement in response to Sturridge’s assertion that Salah is striving to become the “best player in the world”: “I think the problem [is], the fact that he’s with Egypt, and he’s probably not playing in the major tournament as such, or maybe not got a great chance of winning, I think it’s either the Champions League or the major tournament.”

However, Richards chimed in and said, “It is important to note that the African Cup of Nations is a significant competition.” The reason for this is that a lot of people are sitting at home and saying, “They aren’t taking it seriously.” Just so you are aware, the African Cup of Nations is a very important tournament.

In response to Carragher’s inquiry as to whether or not Egypt would be in a position to win the World Cup in 2026, Richards responded, “No.” But the African Cup of Nations is a big deal, isn’t it? Have you ever thought about how Mane and Salah were going for it?

Then, Sturridge continued, “It is a fact. The Euros and the Copa America are two of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. The African Cup of Nations is currently at the same level.

Surprisingly, despite the fact that Egypt has won the African Cup of Nations tournament a record seventeen times, Salah has never actually had the opportunity to carry the trophy.

The last time Egypt triumphed in this competition was in 2010, when Salah had not yet established himself to the point where he could be included in the squad. Since then, Egypt has finished in second place on two separate occasions.

An individual who is a fan of the band took to Twitter and wrote, “Micah and Sturridge, big respect for correcting Carragher there about AFCON.”

A second individual commented: “Jamie Carragher disregarding AFCON being a major tournament, disgrace.”

He was relieved that Micah and Sturridge had informed him about the African Cup of Nations. It is the same as Euros and Copa simples, which are American dollars.
