Liverpool continues to be strongly affected by the curse of the Old Trafford cup.

Despite the belief that signs and predictions indicating a historical disadvantage for the Reds in this match, as it would have been their first away victory against Manchester United in knockout tournaments in over a century, it is not the past that has dashed their dreams of achieving a quadruple.

However, Liverpool’s elimination from the FA Cup quarter-finals was mostly due to their own actions. Jurgen Klopp’s team had multiple opportunities to secure victory in this game, but instead, they allowed United to regain their position in the match, resulting in a level of excitement that was unnecessary.

Indeed, the visitors were unexpectedly taken by surprise in the opening quarter as United aggressively attacked them right from the start. However, after leading 2-1 at half-time, Liverpool’s clear superiority over a significant portion of the second half emphasized the stark difference in quality between the two clubs, which has been evident throughout the Premier League season.

Nevertheless, due to either inadequate attention to detail in the finishing, exceptional goalkeeping by Andre Onana, or perhaps even a hint of overconfidence, the third goal was not achieved.

At that point, Klopp’s replacements predominantly caused Liverpool to regress rather than progress. Cody Gakpo shown significantly less effectiveness compared to Mohamed Salah, Conor Bradley faced significant challenges in his matchup against Alejandro Garnacho, and although Harvey Elliott managed to score the third goal, he also lost possession of the ball, which ultimately resulted in United’s late winning goal.
