Liverpool dealt blow as Tottenham ‘submit tempting’ offer for potential Salah replacement

As per Spanish reports, Tottenham Hotspur has made an offer for Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo, which has dealt a blow to Liverpool.

Following his 2022 transfer from Real Madrid, the 22-year-old has become one of La Liga’s young attackers, excelling for Real Sociedad.

To the Premier League, Kubo?
Before permanently joining Real Sociedad ahead of the 2022–2023 season, Kubo had four loan stints elsewhere and never made a senior appearance for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid may have regretted letting Kubo go in retrospect because he has been a fantastic addition for their La Liga opponents. In his 39 appearances this season across all competitions, he has seven goals and four assists.

His performance for Real Sociedad and Japan has fueled speculation in recent months that he might join the Premier League.

Reports linking the Egypt international to a move to the Saudi Pro League have Kubo mentioned as a possible Mohamed Salah replacement at Liverpool. The Reds were reportedly getting ready to make an offer for the Japan international last month.

However, reports from Spain claim that Spurs, who have “set their sights” on Kubo and are “determined” to sign him before the upcoming season, have already beaten them to the punch.

According to reports, Tottenham “made Real Sociedad an alluring offer of €50 million (£43 million) to acquire the services of the skilled midfielder.” He “has a release clause of 60 million euros, but they are determined to negotiate a lower price,” according to the statement.

Real Sociedad is faced with a challenge by Tottenham’s proposal, as they could potentially lose a crucial component in their overall strategy.

Even though the Basque club has a 2029 contract with Kubo, the Spurs’ alluring offer may sway the board’s choice.

“Real could take the English club’s offer very seriously given the chance to bolster other areas of the team and the potential to receive a sizable financial benefit.”

The Boot Room has reported that Spurs and Liverpool may also compete for Adam Wharton, a £22 million January acquisition for Crystal Palace.

Parish would “find it very hard” to reject a deal that could see them more than double their money for a player in just six months, according to people with knowledge of the situation who spoke with TBR.

Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle are reportedly among the teams that have been monitoring Wharton’s development, according to TBR.

“Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund are still interested in Wharton; they also visited him prior to his transfer to Selhurst Park.”
