Liverpool Fans Make Feelings Clear to Darwin Nunez After 2-0 Win vs Man City

Manchester City suffered a second defeat to Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium this season, reigniting hostilities. As is often the case in games with title implications for both teams, it was the visitors who had everything to play for on this occasion, knowing that a win would allow them to cement their grip on Premier League top spot by extending their lead over Arsenal to 11 points.

The previous encounter between the rivals saw Arne Slot’s men glide to a 2-0 victory in one of the most one-sided games in recent memory between the two titans, and it was one of the first symptoms of City’s precipitous collapse this season. And they got off to an equally overpowering start, with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai capitalising on some poor defending to give the visitors a two-goal lead that the hosts could never recover from.

Darwin Nunez was placed on the bench for the entire 90 minutes after his boss criticised him in midweek. However, footage of him after the game has gone viral, and his interaction with the away fans reveals his current situation.

Nunez Serenaded by Singing Liverpool Fans

The striker showed his appreciation to the supporters

As seen in the video above, Nunez was put through his paces alongside the rest of Liverpool’s unused substitutes during a warm-down exercise on the Etihad pitch in front of the fans. And after a week in which Nunez was obliged to come out and repeat his willingness to assist his side win the title, he was shown affection by the away fans, who screamed his name as he approached.

In a touching moment, the Uruguayan could be seen tapping the insignia on his shirt in thanks while thanking the supporters for their support.

While many have criticised the 25-year-old’s inconsistency in front of goal since his arrival at Anfield in 2022, his recent open-goal miss against Aston Villa has increased the emphasis on him even more. The former Benfica player had a fantastic opportunity to give his team the three points at Villa Park, but he blasted his shot over the crossbar.

While the miss was bad enough, the striker was further chastised for failing to applaud the travelling fans after the final whistle with his Liverpool teammates, as he was spotted walking down the tunnel alone. With the affection between the fans and the player on full display following the season-defining win, it appears like any ill will produced by this may be forgotten.
