Man United now want to sign £67m ‘perfect Bruno Fernandes partner’ as Manuel Ugarte alternative

The French champions want at least £59 million for the former Sporting CP player and don’t seem willing to talk about a cheaper price.

In recent days, Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana has been mentioned as a possible replacement. O Jogo also says that Morten Hjulmand is being thought about by the team. There is a £67 million release clause in Hjulmand’s deal with Sporting.

He was hired to take Ugarte’s place last summer. Ugarte’s agent is putting pressure on PSG through the Hjulmand link.

He left Lecce in the summer to play for Sporting. He played in almost all of the games on the list.

With four duels won per game, the 25-year-old was able to complete 87% of his passes. Besides that, he made two tackles and averaged 5.1 recoveries for the Lisbon leaders.

The player could be signed for less than his release clause, since Sporting might need to make a big sale this summer to get their finances in order.

On the other hand, we think the talk might be caused by agents. Jorge Mendes, Ugarte’s top agent, is likely using the trade link to put pressure on PSG.

The Parisians are in talks to sign Joao Neves, a young star player for Benfica. They might have to get rid of Ugarte to make room for the highly rated Portuguese player.

If Neves makes the move, the French champions will probably lower their standards. If United wanted to sign someone, Ugarte would be a much better choice than Hjulmand.

About 91% of the passes the 23-year-old made last season were complete. He also made an average of 3.9 tackles, 7.2 clearances, and 6.4 duels won. He would be great as a defensive midfielder.
