Michael Owen’s Comments About Man City Before Season Started Re-Emerge

Published

on

Liverpool were the latest team to upset Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scoring in a commanding 2-0 victory – although the Reds join a long list of teams that have beaten the dominant force in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side’s slide deepens, with only 13 wins in 26 games in the 2024/25 Premier League season, dropping them to fourth place, while an early elimination from the Champions League dimmed the spirit.

While City’s fans and the reigning four-time winners struggle to accept this abrupt decline after a decade of extraordinary success, Michael Owen predicted it. The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker forecast City’s troubles in the summer, prompting scepticism.

Michael Owen’s Grave Predictions For Manchester City Are Coming True.
The former Premier League talisman predicted City’s demise before anyone else.

Owen’s words in August, before the ball was kicked, were universally discounted. While he may not be a time traveler, his warning now appears to be as timely as ever, as Guardiola and his team’s search for explanations yields very few results.

Ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Owen projected that Aston Villa would finish ahead of reigning champion Manchester City. At the pinnacle, Owen, widely regarded as one of the best attackers in Premier League history, expected Arsenal to finish first and Arne Slot’s Liverpool to finish second.

“Arsenal and Manchester City will go in virtually everybody’s top four predictions and I think Liverpool will probably be in there as well, despite there being some questions over how well Arne Slot will fit in,” he added according to Football365.

“I’ll go with Arsenal first, Liverpool second, Aston Villa third, and Manchester City fourth. Manchester City has the title to lose, but I believe they may slip up this year. They’ve really put their foot down when it was necessary and had a tremendous run last year, but they’re going to fall short at some point.”

“When other challengers get stronger and wiser it’ll get tougher for them and I wouldn’t rule out that being this season,” according to him. “They also have the inquiry hanging over them, and Pep Guardiola won’t be there forever. “This could be his final season.

Of course, Guardiola has now secured a contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium for another two years. However, it is unclear whether that agreement will be maintained, as the Catalan legend appears to be a shell of his former self on the touchline.

While he is regarded to be the one to lead them out of the tunnel and back into the light after their Champions League campaign was cut short by reigning champions Real Madrid, their sole focus remains on domestic competitions and maintaining their top-four status.
