In a few hours, Arsenal will make the announcement that Riccardo Calafiori has joined the team; but, this summer’s acquisition of an Italian player won’t be the last.

He will shortly surpass David Raya’s permanent signing as their second-largest summer transfer acquisition. Who, though, will come next?

Arsenal has a shortlist of players, and the signing of Calafiori is anticipated to lead to other transactions.

But they have to deal with each player individually. After signing Calafiori, Fabrizio Romano anticipates that they will become more interested in Mikel Merino.

After an amazing showing at Euro 2024, the Spanish midfielder is slated to leave Real Sociedad this season.

His entourage was contacted by Arsenal regarding relocating to North London, and the reaction was favourable, paving the way for them to begin further discussions.

Romano clarifies that, given that Sociedad has entered the last year of his current contract, signing the Spanish player will depend on how much he demands.

Only Arsenal’s viewpoint

At Euro 2024, Merino was playing fantastically, and Arsenal will have a plenty of options with the midfielder.

He should not be too costly to sign because he still has a year on his contract, and Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly try his hardest to persuade him to go.
