OFFICIAL NOW: After weeks of negotiations, Arsenal has finally secured the £50 million player that is the most sought-after in Europe. The five-year contract was signed today, and a medical examination was conducted.

Arsenal’s transfer season is now heating up after a slow start.

The runners-up in the Premier League have already brought in goalkeepers Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard, but it looks like they are almost done signing Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Furthermore, there is still talk about Mikel Merino moving to the Emirates this summer in these sources.

But according to recent sources, the Gunners are working hard to get a player who would be the ideal replacement in its place.

News about Arsenal transfers
Football Transfers’ Transfers Podcast host Duncan Castles has reported that Arsenal is considering Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

The £147k-per-week Spaniard has really been the subject of “discussions” between the Gunners and the Parisians, according to Castles. However, any deal would need the North Londoners to sell a midfield player first, which seems to be the case with Emile Smith Rowe.

Although a possible cost is not stated, Castles asserts that any transfer would probably be set up like the David Raya agreement, with an upfront loan and a purchase obligation for the following year.

It would be fantastic business for Arsenal if they could get Ruiz for a one-year loan in the upcoming weeks, but it might also mean that Merino stays put.

How Merino and Ruiz compare
Both players are primarily central midfielders and are probably thought to be the best choices for Arsenal’s left-eight position, but which would be the better option? Even though they can both play in a variety of midfield situations. It’s a close race in terms of productivity, though.
