It was said by Fabrizio Romano that Arsenal really wants one player but hasn’t made an offer for him yet.

The Gunners got off to a slow start in this window. After being very quiet in June, they have been going faster over the last few weeks.

Arsenal is almost done getting Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. They first turned David Raya’s loan into a permanent deal.

Once that’s done, TBR Football exclusively reported that Arsenal will look for a new midfielder, and Mikel Merino has emerged as their top choice.

Romano has said what he wants to say.

Fabrizio Romano talks about why he “can’t promise” that Arsenal will sign Mikel Merino.
This summer, Arsenal needs to get a new playmaker for sure.

Arab Elneny was free to leave Arsenal when his contract was up, and Albert Sambi Lokonga has been sent out on loan for the whole 2024–25 season.

Some news sources say that Emile Smith Rowe is also about to leave Arsenal, which leaves them a bit short in the middle of the pitch.

In the past few weeks, Mikel Arteta’s team has been linked with a number of midfielders, and Merino is said to be one of their top targets.

Romano has now said what he thinks about it.

The journalist said that Arsenal’s interest in Merino is “100% confirmed.” However, there is still no promise that the Spanish player will join the runners-up in the Premier League because talks between the Gunners and Real Sociedad are still ongoing.

The player told GiveMeSport that Mikkel Arteta was the one asking for Riccardo Calafiori to join this summer. As you can see, Arteta and Edu are clearly having a big impact on Arsenal’s plan.

“So, this is also the plan for Mikel Merino. The appreciation is 100% confirmed, but we can’t say for sure that it will be him because there is still no bid or concrete negotiation.”

Who else could Arsenal sign in the middle of the pitch?
Merino is a great choice for Arsenal.

The Spanish player, who Kieran Tierney of the Guardian called “world-class,” is great with the ball, great in the air, and has been one of the most reliable midfielders in La Liga over the years.

Arsenal will have to look at other players on the market, though, if they decide not to go with Merino again.

The Gunners don’t have many great choices left now that Douglas Luiz has joined Juventus and Amadou Onana has joined Aston Villa.

But recently it was said that Arsenal is in talks with PSG to sign Fabian Ruiz. At Euro 2024, Ruiz was better than Merino.
