Jurgen Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool, once referred to Premier League player Sepp van den Berg as a “big talent.”

The Brentford defender is currently contemplating a return to the club in order to realise his aspirations.

When the 18-year-old joined Klopp’s team in 2019, the German manager had nothing but high praise for him.

Klopp stated to Liverpoolfc.com, “He is a young player, but he is a significant talent, and we already have a strong team.” “He accepted the challenge, and I am extremely pleased for him. He was truly eager to participate in this.”

The situation at Anfield was not satisfactory, and he ultimately transferred to Brentford.

He has now disclosed that he has aspirations of reuniting with Liverpool and pursuing a position in the Netherlands senior team.

He stated in an interview with the Dutch football news outlet Voetbal Primeur, “I had a few conversations with Slot [when he arrived].” However, I had already informed the club that I intended to depart and play minutes prior to the commencement of the preparation.

“I would be deceiving if I claimed that I did not harbour aspirations of returning to Liverpool at some point.” I am still contemplating that. However, it was more advantageous for my professional development to pursue an alternative course of action and engage in an extensive amount of play.

“I am currently engaged in this activity, which enables me to achieve the highest level of growth.” Liverpool requested that I remain after the preparation process, as they believed that I had performed exceptionally well. However, it was not something that I personally observed.

“It was all my choice, I am happy that I now play in the Premier League every week” he indicated.

Van den Berg also acknowledged that he had entertained the possibility of being summoned to replace the injured Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez at various points this season if he remained at Liverpool.

“I would be deceiving if I claimed that I did not examine that myself.” That is football, you are unaware. The preparation was successful, and I genuinely envisioned myself playing for the club. However, I did not have the same level of credit as I do at Brentford.

I am currently a starter who is always on the pitch as long as he is in good health. I would have been more of a player who was required to fill in gaps at Liverpool. Personally, I would prefer to serve as the starting point.

“And who knows, if I do well here for two or three years, I will return to Liverpool and be a starter there too” according to him.

Van den Berg, who is 23 years old, signed for Liverpool in 2019 for a fee of £1.3 million. However, he only appeared in four senior matches.

He subsequently spent his time with the Reds on loan, spending time at Preston North End, Schalke, and Mainz. Brentford, a Premier League team, acquired him in a £25m deal last summer.

He has established himself as an indispensable member of Thomas Frank’s defence this season, starting 24 of the 25 games in which he has participated for the Bees.

He acknowledged that he aspires to become a member of the Oranje at the international level, describing it as a “boy’s dream” to represent his country.
