There were concerns that Liverpool were about to violate a Premier League rule that could result in a deduction of points, and Mo Salah appeared to try to intervene in the game despite the fact that Liverpool had just won against Southampton.

During the 3-1 victory, Salah scored two goals from the penalty spot, bringing his total number of goals scored in the Premier League to 27 for the season with ten games still to go.

Following a poor performance in the first half, which resulted in them falling behind to a goal scored by Will Smallbone, Arne Slot’s team came back from behind to win the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain by a score of 1-0. This victory brought them one step closer to winning their 20th league championship.

In the course of the match, there were a total of twelve substitutions made, with Jarell Quansah being the last player to be brought on board to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 89th minute.

On the other hand, it was precisely at this point that Salah gave the impression of being in a state of panic and appeared to be attempting to prevent the substitution from taking place.

It was observed that he was having conversations with the referee, Lewis Smith, and the well-respected Liverpool reporter, David Lynch, noticed the Egyptian’s frantic behaviour, which indicated that he was concerned that the club might lose points due to a costly oversight.

“Mohamed Salah has just been desperately trying to stop Liverpool making a sixth substitution there so they don’t get docked points,” he stated in his article.

“Looked like the referee had to explain to him they get an extra one due to the earlier head injury.”

The rules of the Premier League permit a maximum of five substitutions to be made; however, in accordance with the protocol for concussions, both teams are permitted to make a sixth change.

In the 19th minute of the first half, Armel Bella-Kotchap was substituted in for Jan Bednarek, who had been forced to leave the game due to a head injury. The visitors used their concussion substitute to make the substitution.

Not only did this provide Southampton with an additional substitute, but it also made it possible for Liverpool to make another substitution in the final moments of the game.

Despite the fact that Salah did not appear to be aware of the rule, he was worried that his team was about to make a mistake that would have legendary consequences.

After scoring two goals, he moved up to third place in the all-time goalscoring charts for Liverpool. Additionally, he moved to the same position as Sergio Aguero, who has scored 184 goals, making him tied for fifth place in the all-time Premier League list.
