Jose Antonio Reyes was a proficient Spanish footballer who primarily played in the position of a left winger.

At the young age of 16, he made his first appearance as a professional player for Sevilla. He then joined Arsenal in January 2004. He achieved the status of being one of the ‘Invincibles’ when Arsenal emerged as the champions of the Premier League without losing any matches during the 2003-04 season.

After a two-year absence, he came back to Spain and proceeded to play for the two biggest clubs in Madrid, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. He also achieved victory in La Liga with Real Madrid.

Reyes returned to Sevilla towards the end of his career and achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Europa League three consecutive times from 2014 to 2016, setting a new record with a total of five victories.

Oh my gosh.. How did this occur… I have a vivid recollection of a particular incident that took place in 2004 at a sports shop located in Knightsbridge. During that time, a youthful Jose Antonio Reyes happened to be present in the shop. My wife kindly handed me a pen, and both of my sons and I had the privilege of obtaining his autograph. Shortly after, I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder. It was Jose, speaking in imperfect English, informing me that I had left my pen behind. Rest in peace, Antonio. You will forever remain in our hearts.

Jose Antonio Reyes was the initial Arsenal player I encountered outside of a match. It is with great sorrow that we have received news of his unfortunate demise today. At the age of 15, I was present at Wood Green’s Footlocker when I observed his arrival accompanied by his family. I was quite thrilled when he recently became a member of Arsenal. When I finally mustered the guts to request this autograph, he had already departed from the store. I was deeply upset. Swiftly, I approached a staff member and requested a writing instrument, then pursued him along the street, exclaiming loudly, “REYES! REYES! Please wait!” Upon reuniting with him, he appeared somewhat bewildered… Due of his lack of English proficiency, I resorted to nonverbal communication by just gesturing towards the pen. Once more, he appeared perplexed, prompting me to remove my sweater and expose my Arsenal jersey. He uttered “Ohhhh” and made a remark in Spanish that caused his family to burst into laughter, accompanied by his mischievous smile. Undoubtedly, he affixed his signature on it. Truly one of the most joyful moments of my life šŸ’” Furthermore, I had a striking resemblance to him during my formative years. During my time in secondary school, I was frequently referred to as “Reyes” by many younger students. Today is a day filled with sorrow.
