Walkes, who came through the Spurs academy and played over 50 times for the youth teams, left the team in 2018. He made one substitute appearance for the senior team in 2016. Before relocating to Charlotte, he played on loan for MLS team Atalanta in America and Portsmouth as well.
“Charlotte Football Club can confirm the tragic and heartbreaking news that defender Anton Walkes passed away early Thursday morning following an accident in South Florida,” the statement reads in response to his passing. His age was twenty-five.
The untimely death of Anton Walkes has left Tepper Sports & Entertainment staff members inconsolable. According to club owner David Tepper, “He was a fantastic son, father, partner, and teammate whose joyful approach to life touched everyone he met.”

“Anton embodied the best qualities of a Charlotte FC player both on and off the field, improving everyone around him.” Many people will miss him terribly, and during this terrible time, our thoughts and prayers are with Anton’s family. The club extends its sincere condolences to everyone affected during this time of loss.

Sporting director Zoran Krneta said, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father, loving person, and outstanding human being.” “Our entire community is in mourning over this tragedy, and Anton embodied what it meant to be a part of Charlotte Football Club.” We will never forget the impression he left on Charlotte, both in the locker room and elsewhere.
