Prior to Como’s return to Serie A this summer, Cesc Fabregas has been linked to bringing another big star to his team.

Although four of those players were on loan at the club with buyout options last summer, the Italian team has already completed the addition of five players to their roster on permanent agreements this summer.

The only new player to join the team is Andrea Belotti, who cost €4.5 million to sign from Roma. He is undoubtedly a high-profile addition.

Forbes reports that Como’s owners, the Djarum Group, are the wealthiest in Italian football, with brothers Robert Budi and Michael Hartono having a combined net worth of $48 billion.

And because of this, as well as the club’s picturesque position close to the Swiss coast, they have an easier time luring talent than some of their divisional competitors.

Fabrizio Romano reports that one of Como’s main targets has now arrived in the city to have “face-to-face talks” regarding a relocation.

Raphael Varane is the player in question; he will officially become a free agent on Monday with the expiration of his Manchester United contract.

Since the Frenchman’s departure from Old Trafford was confirmed last month, he is free to speak with other teams.

According to Romano, Varane will meet with the Como board as well as assistant coach and minority stakeholder Fabregas.

After winning three of his five Serie B games during his brief stint in charge of the team the previous season, the Spaniard was forced to leave after only one month because he had the necessary UEFA coaching badges.

Ahead of the upcoming Serie A season, he is starting to assemble a strong team, and it appears that more well-known players may be headed to Como.
