Finally, Sporting Lisbon has revealed who would succeed departed head coach Ruben Amorim, who left the Portuguese powerhouse to lead Manchester United.

Joao Pereira, head coach of Sporting Lisbon’s B team, has been named to succeed Ruben Amorim in the senior squad.

Amorim departed the Portuguese powerhouses to become the next manager of Manchester United. His final match was on Sunday night, when Sporting defeated Braga 4-2 after trailing by two goals.

The 39-year-old intends to move to Old Trafford with a large portion of his coaching staff. As a result, Pereira had to step up from the B squad, forcing Sporting to make a risky move.

In addition to playing for Portugal at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup, Pereira had three separate stints with Sporting. Following his retirement, the former right-back transitioned into coaching, most recently serving as the head coach of Sporting’s B squad.

Additionally, it has been revealed that Carlos Barreira, Jorge Vital, Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido, and Carlos Fernandes will join Amorim’s staff at United. José Caldeira, Tiago Teixeira, and António Calça e Pina will instead back Pereira.

For the first time since 1954, Sporting is aiming to win the Portuguese league twice in a row. After winning all 11 of the team’s first league games, Amorim departs with the team.

Following the victory over Braga, Amorim declared his unwavering support for his successor. Additionally, he supported the new Sporting manager’s efforts to keep the team successful.

“I’ll be there for him; there will be a coach and a framework. In actuality, I will be the same starting tomorrow, just wearing a different outfit. Since that’s how I operate, I concentrated on my work and built relationships with the new players,” he stated.

“Being a champion myself, I simply believe in the new coach and that they will succeed in Marquês. I have no doubt that he will bring in fresh perspectives that a five-year veteran coach has missed.

“A coach will not sell someone else’s notion; he sells his own. He is capable, so I have faith in him, but he might not be as fortunate. Having a fresh perspective on the team and their capabilities can be beneficial at times. He is incredibly smart.

Fernandes revealed his departure from Sporting on Monday morning. Fernandes will be Amorim’s assistant at United. He praised the players and the club for their efforts under Amorim’s leadership.

“The adventure that changed my life,” he stated. There were so many moments that I will always treasure. There is no greater feeling than unending appreciation to everyone who helped us create something so unique, including teammates who became friends with us, athletes for whom words cannot express how much we appreciate them, and everyone who has always been there for us. “Thank you so much!”
