The Deal is Completed – Man Utd has finally secure £67.4million signing

Just when it appeared that Man Utd would escape the Frenkie de Jong scandal with just one transfer window left, rumours of a possible bid for the Barcelona midfield virtuoso have reappeared.

Given what has happened over the last two transfer windows, it does seem as though Man Utd and Frenkie de Jong are in a poisonous relationship right now. We do know, though, that Ten Hag dream signed the 27-year-old.

Transfer: As the club’s negotiation position weakens, Man Utd is only willing to spend £29.5 million for a deal – Report

Ten Hag and Laporta are finalising the terms of Frenkie de Jong’s transfer, according to reports originating in Spain. Despite the Dutch midfielder’s extended injury absence, Man Utd has already started negotiations to sign him.

He is viewed by the Red Devils as the ideal midfield partner for Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

The Catalan team is willing to pay roughly £67.4 million to get De Jong and hopes to use the money from player sales to bring in Dani Olmo and Nico Williams, two Spanish players. Barcelona might be tempted to sell him for such an offer as a result.

The article does state, though, that De Jong does not see Man Utd’s vision to be “attractive enough” to contemplate moving to Old Trafford. Another factor contributing to this feeling is probably the absence of Champions League football.

Although De Jong is usually a fairly healthy player, he has recently suffered from an ankle ailment that has prevented him from playing for an extended amount of time. He is not travelling with Barcelona’s preseason team to the United States, and it is unclear when he will return.

Signing Frenkie de Jong made a lot of sense a few seasons ago, or perhaps even last season. But Kobbie Mainoo’s rise is a glaring indication for Man Utd that they should look past the Dutchman.

Since neither of them has the defensive skill to play at the base of midfield, the combination is unlikely to succeed. Man Utd need to pair Mainoo—a superb ball carrier—with a more powerful, Ugarte-like profile. It would be foolish to sign De Jong, and hopefully the club executives feel the same way.
