Two Tottenham stars make feelings clear on helping Arsenal by beating Man City

When Tottenham plays Man City, they may unintentionally give rivals Arsenal a significant advantage in the Premier League title fight.

The Tottenham team maintains that they are only thinking about their own season and is uninterested in the consequences of their match against Manchester City for rivals Arsenal. Entering the final week of the season, the Gunners lead the table by one point following their 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The match that City has coming up takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night. With a win, the defending champions—who are vying for a fourth straight championship—would be two goals ahead and in command heading into the penultimate day at the Etihad Stadium against West Ham.

Seeking their first championship since 2004, Arsenal plays Everton at home to wrap up their season on Sunday. They will also be anxiously hoping for a favor from their bitter rivals in North London, Spurs, who have defeated City at home in all four Premier League games since relocating to a new stadium.

Although Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Tottenham in the FA Cup in January at this location, they were held to a 3-3 draw in the league matchup this season in Manchester. Spurs have usually enjoyed playing against City in the past few seasons.

However, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski don’t care what the outcome means for other teams. Rather, they claim that Spurs’ only concern is their dwindling chances of finishing in the top four. Their best chance of winning tonight’s match would be for Liverpool to defeat fourth-place Aston Villa, but a draw would also suffice.

After Spurs’ lap of honor after Saturday’s victory over Burnley, rather than after the game against City, angered Arsenal supporters. And he said: “It was a strange feeling but it was for the kids today because it was an afternoon game but the season is not over, absolutely not.”

The Swedish winger made no bones about his feelings when asked if any Spurs fans had specifically asked the team to lose to City in midweek in order to prevent Arsenal from winning the league. “It’s a team we love playing against,” he stated.

“We enjoy competing against the best teams. It will therefore be a pleasant evening. One thing is that they create space behind the backline, but playing against the best presents a variety of challenges.”

After the 2-1 victory over Burnley, the back-from-absence Maddison stated, “We needed a reaction after four losses.” Four straight losses is something a team like Tottenham should never experience. We had to correct it. We now have to wrap up the season with a bang.

“We will, of course, provide everything on Tuesday. We work as professionals. Helping Arsenal is something the supporters should discuss, not us players, as it’s the only way we can qualify for the Champions League.”

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Spurs, is adamant that his team will win even though three points for the home team would give Arsenal a huge opportunity to win the league. “I think we’ve got what it takes to make a game out of it and play our football and see where that takes us,” the Australian coach stated.

“They are a fantastic team, and along with Arsenal, they currently set the standard for the competition. We still have some ground to cover, but we’re going to give it our best shot—95 minutes of football at our location, and they’re probably twenty points ahead of us.”
