Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, must make a crucial decision regarding the left-hand side of the defense for Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Everton at the Emirates.

Longtime knee injuries Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White will undoubtedly be sidelined once more for the Gunners manager, and Riccardo Calafiori (knee), Gabriel Magalhaes (unspecified), and Oleksandr Zinchenko (muscle) are all listed as touch-and-go.

Either Myles Lewis-Skelly or Jurrien Timber should cover the position at left-back if neither Zinchenko nor Calafiori are available; Kieran Tierney is still out even after Arteta gave him a lifeline.

Lewis-Skelly, who had a fantastic performance and a superb pre-assist for Bukayo Saka’s first goal of the match, was selected for Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Monaco.

Timber’s unexplained absence from Tuesday’s training gave the teenager his chance, but the Dutchman is now anticipated to replace Lewis-Skelly in a defense that remains largely identical.

If Timber blasts down the left, Thomas Partey will continue in his makeshift right-back position, and Jakub Kiwior and William Saliba will continue to be the top picks while Calafiori and Gabriel heal.

With the exception of the unavoidable Saka, Arteta shouldn’t see the need to change the midfield trio of Mikel Merino, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard. However, a few changes up top are likely.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard are now ready to rejoin the team after neither Gabriel Jesus nor Gabriel Martinelli performed well against Monaco; the latter was lucky not to be sent off.

Raya, Partey, Saliba, Kiwior, Timber; Odegaard, Rice, Merino; Saka, Havertz, and Trossard are Arsenal’s potential starting lineup.
