The Premier League official David Coote was suspended the previous week after videos were discovered to have been released online. The Premier League has now reacted to concerns from those who have called for a change in policy.

As a result of the recent issue involving David Coote, it has come to light that the PGMOL does not intend to implement drug testing on match officials.

After Coote, who was punished the previous week for making insulting comments about Jurgen Klopp, was shown in a video that was posted on social media reportedly ingesting a white substance, the refereeing regulating body has been challenged with the idea of implementing obligatory testing for Premier League referees and officials.

The general public’s trust in match officials has substantially decreased as a result of the impact from the aforementioned disclosures. On the other hand, The Star has disclosed that the relevant football authorities and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) do not have any interest in mandating that referees undergo drug testing.

According to The Star, according to their knowledge, the PGMOL is not aware of any forthcoming intentions to implement testing of referees, and for the time being, the organisation will continue to adhere to WADA’s guidelines.

Referees and match officials are not required to submit to obligatory drug testing in accordance with the terms of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). And despite the fact that it has been suggested that it would be unethical and morally wrong for a referee to be under the effect of drugs while working, it has also been argued that performance-enhancing substances would not have any impact on the official’s performance during matches.

In the year 2000, Keith Hackett, a former official in the Premier League, proposed that match officials should be subjected to drug testing. However, his proposal was rejected due to concerns that implementation of such a measure would result in negative publicity.

A video showing the 42-year-old individual calling former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp a “German c***” was released for the first time before the most recent video of him was made public last week.

According to a statement made by a representative for the PGMOL, “David’s welfare continues to be of the utmost importance to us, and we are committed to providing him with the ongoing support he needs throughout this period.” However, at this point in time, we are unable to provide any additional commentary.
