Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic Return Address

Published

on

Greg Taylor, a former Celtic defender, has responded candidly to talk that Ange Postecoglou could return to Parkhead.

With Brendan Rodgers’ contract set to expire at the end of the season and uncertainty over the club’s future, some fans have asked for the Australian to return, but Taylor isn’t joining the conversation.

The Scottish left-back, who left Celtic in the summer after six trophy-laden seasons, collaborated well with both coaches and played some of his greatest games under Postecoglou. During Ange’s two seasons in command, the two formed a solid bond as Taylor prospered in the inverted full-back position that became synonymous with that era.

Postecoglou has already had a difficult experience in England, leaving Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year before a brief stint at Nottingham Forest. Despite this, his name remains popular among Celtic fans, who fondly recall his exciting play and treble-winning season.

Taylor, who now plays for PAOK in Greece, was asked about the growing fan feeling and delivered a typically grounded response, praising both managers while refusing to speculate on what might happen next at Celtic Park.

Taylor said, “Jesus!” at the Scottish Football Social Club. I’m not sure where to start with that. There are so many hypotheses there.

“Right now, Brendan is the manager and doing an excellent job.

“Who knows what will happen at the end of the season?”

“A guy who I’ve got so much respect for.”

Taylor’s response encapsulated the professionalism he always demonstrated at Celtic. He understands how much fans still adore Postecoglou, but his message was clear: the focus must remain on the present, as Brendan Rodgers has been stressing during a difficult period.

His statements also demonstrated his appreciation for both management. Postecoglou helped him improve his game and achieve a new level, while Rodgers introduced structure and calm in his second stint.

Taylor certainly appreciates what each of them offered him, but he was eager to point out that Rodgers is the man in control today and deserves that support.

For Celtic, the ongoing debate over the manager’s position demonstrates how tense things have grown following recent losses. Given Rodgers’ uncertain future and the club’s hunt for form, it’s no wonder that Postecoglou’s name has come up again, given his success.

Taylor’s cool response will not stop the argument, but it is a reminder of the club’s standards set by both managers, as well as how rapidly things can change when results fall short.

For the time being, Rodgers stays in command, and the attention will be on how he and his players respond to get Celtic’s season back on track.
