A defensive conundrum for Manchester United ahead of their Community Shield matchup with Manchester City on Saturday.

The injury situation that Manchester United is dealing with is becoming worse even before the season has begun.

Prior to Saturday’s Community Shield match at Wembley against Manchester City, Erik ten Hag has disclosed that Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw’s fitness are all in doubt.

Even before a competitive ball is kicked, the Red Devils are already without Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund because of injuries.

Ten Hag has stated that Maguire is one of numerous doubts for this weekend’s friendly against Liverpool in South Carolina. Maguire was not present for the match last weekend.

The United manager gave an explanation, saying, “Harry Maguire missed the game as a precaution.” It remains uncertain what will happen on Saturday. After his training, we must determine whether or not he is healthy enough to be accessible.

Vic played, but he’s still a question mark. The same goes for Azza (Wan-Bissaka) and Luke Shaw. Tomorrow, we have to grade them.”

Because United doesn’t have many other choices at centre back, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans may team up. According to Ten Hag, he will not take any needless risks at Wembley, even though he wants to beat City again after their FA Cup win.

“We always want to win, also in all the friendlies,” he stated. “It’s about the trophy.” To win this prize, we will put together a very strong team.

“But it’s also preseason, and we don’t want to risk our players.” That’s how this game is usually played.”

Kobbie Mainoo is one of the United stars who came back to Carrington this week after missing the team’s pre-season tour of the US. Ten Hag said that each player has a specific training plan that they follow to get ready for games.

“That depends on the person,” he said. “Everyone comes from a different place.” They had different starts while we were in the USA, even though we put them on off-season projects.
