Arda Guler loan move, Raphinha deal, Victor Gyokeres transfer,” Arsenal squad list once the January transfer is completed – as Arteta prepared to do clearing of the second half of the season in order to win the championship.

Arsenal struggled in Martin Odegaard’s absence due to injury. His return to the pitch against Chelsea demonstrated precisely what the Gunners had been lacking, with his assist for Gabriel Martinelli serving as solid evidence.

His pass in the buildup to the last-second opportunity emphasised the point even more. Odegaard has returned to Arsenal after it was determined that he should not play for Norway during the international break, citing the possibility of another setback.

It is evident that Arsenal must find individuals who can fill the creative hole that arises when Odegaard is unavailable or is less influential in a game. Bukayo Saka performs this to some extent on the right, but it has been lacking in both deputising alternatives for Odegaard and on the left thus far.

With that in mind, football.london analyses the statistics to identify three of Europe’s top creators this season. These three stand out when it comes to goal-scoring and shot creation.

Ademola Lookman
The first is Ademola Lookman, a player linked with Arsenal during the summer transfer window. The Nigerian international has already faced the Gunners and posed a danger as Atalanta missed a penalty to earn a 0-0 draw in Bergamo.

Lookman has continued to amaze following another high-scoring season in 2023-24. He has eight goals and five assists in 14 games; no one on the Arsenal club has reached 13 goal contributions this season; Saka has 11 (four goals and seven assists).

Lookman has primarily played on the left side, as a second striker. He is flexible and can also play as a centre-forward, giving Mikel Arteta a backup option through the centre if the striker has to be rotated.

Finally, Lookman is ranked fourth in Europe’s top five leagues by FBRef for shot-creating-actions per 90 (SCA90), at 8.04. Quite a quantity, and maybe just what Arsenal requires.

Alex Baena
Alex Baena, another member of Spain’s emerging star class, is now in his mid-20s and facing increased expectations. He has become a Villarreal sensation and is now a full-fledged Spain senior international, having impressed in seven appearances and scoring two goals.

He has five assists this season and is ranked tenth on FBRef’s SCA90 list for Europe’s top five leagues so far. Certainly less well-known to a larger audience, there is concern that Arsenal may recruit another Fabio Vieira, but this is the issue when it comes to selecting the proper talents.

Again, like Lookman, he primarily plays on the left but can also play centrally. It would be a riskier decision, but the marquee wants are just not there during the winter season to consider to the same extent.

Rayan Cherki
Finally, Lyon’s Rayan Cherki is a player that many readers may be familiar with. He may only have two goals and three assists this season, but he might have had many more.

He is ranked second in FBRef’s SCA90 rankings, at 8.45. At 21, he is also the youngest on the list, with lots of room for growth.

Unlike Lookman and Baena, he is either centre or tilted to the right side. Without a definite strong foot, he may invert and go to the touchline for cut-back passes.
