Arne Slot calls for new VAR experiment after Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall avoids red card

The experiment with the video assistant referee (VAR) should have provided an explanation for why Lucas Bergvall, the winner of the Tottenham match, was not sent off.

Bergvall, a hero for Tottenham, had already been booked, and then he was fortunate enough to avoid receiving a second yellow card for a foul played on Kostas Tsimikas shortly before he scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute.

As part of the Carabao Cup video assistant referee trial, referee Stuart Attwell had utilised the stadium microphone to communicate to the spectators that Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke had been offside all throughout the match.

A statement made by Slot, the manager of Liverpool, stated that it would be more fascinating for everyone if he explained why there wasn’t a second yellow card. Nobody anticipated that the choice that he did not issue the second yellow would have such a significant influence thirty seconds later. The decision has already been taken, and there is no way to undo it.

I have not enquired with him, but I am quite certain that after Bergvall scored, he was most likely thinking, “This can’t be happening.” I am 99.99 percent certain of this. Also, this is not even close to being optimal for him.

A further statement was made by Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, who stated, “I believe the referee made a mistake, and I told him that.” Although he claims that he did not, I believe that it was fairly evident, and everyone who was watching from the sidelines knew that it was supposed to be a yellow.

Slot maintained that Liverpool still has the ability to reverse the outcome of the second leg, despite the fact that his team was defeated by Tottenham just 17 days after hammering them by a score of 6-3.

Slot stated, “Two games are never the same, and I never thought it would be another 6-3,” referring to the score. On the other hand, if you are going to lose, the ideal way to do so is to lose by a score of 1-0 and have the opportunity to win the game in the next one.

During the pursuit of their first trophy since 2008, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made fun of anyone who had doubts about his ability to win a trophy in his second season in charge of the company. Despite the fact that people can continue to make fun of me about it, Postecoglou stated, “We will see.”

The manager of the Spurs further argued that his statements about “all things being equal” were incorrectly interpreted by everyone. They were misunderstood, and they were not about the officials. They were about the people. I can understand why Arne is dissatisfied, and I would feel the same way. However, it would appear that they are following the regulations.

“There is a great deal of misunderstanding at the moment. Who is it that is keeping quiet about this? ‘It’s Coming Home’ is a song that you have, and it’s taken an Australian who lives on the opposite side of the planet to say something!

“Mate, this has been a very emotional moment for me. A human being is what I am. The fact that everybody at this club, including our supporters, do not enjoy that sense of success is something that makes me feel terrible. It has a significant impact on me.

After falling during the first half, Tottenham player Rodrigo Bentancur needed to be carried off the pitch by a stretcher. Postecoglou added, “We cannot speculate what happened.” Because of what I know, I am hopeful that he will be okay. It was a frightening situation that has always been a concern.
