Arsenal
Arsenal must overcome one final significant obstacle in the Premier League before they can claim the championship.
Martin Keown believes that Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title will depend on their ability to avoid losing against Manchester City in their upcoming match.
Arsenal ascended to the summit of the league standings following a 2-1 victory against Brentford on Saturday evening. Kai Havertz scored a header in the last moments of the game, securing victory for his team. As a result, they are now in first place with a total of 64 points.
Significantly, Liverpool will be hosting Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in a highly anticipated match between the top two teams in the league. The victor of that match has the opportunity to reclaim the leading position, while the defeated party will lose points. On the other hand, a draw, which Arsenal would likely prefer, would result in both sides losing important points.
When evaluating the current state of his previous team during the matches, Keown expressed to Premier League Productions: “We are witnessing a competition involving three teams, a scenario that has not occurred since 2014, making it a novel experience for the players.” In my opinion, the outcome of the game this weekend seems predetermined – City, being the reigning champions, are likely to have the confidence that they can emerge victorious.
Achieving a victory in the City versus Klopp matchup at Anfield has proven to be a challenging task for Pep Guardiola, as he has only managed to outperform Jurgen Klopp once in the past eight years, and that particular victory occurred in the absence of spectators in the stadium. However, Keown quickly shifted his focus and, when considering Arsenal’s impending match against City, the ex-Gunner is of the opinion that a victory or tie would greatly enhance their chances of winning the title.
“Arsenal will have a weekend without any scheduled matches due to their elimination from the FA Cup. Their next opponent will be Manchester City, which indicates the significance of the upcoming match,” he further stated. If Arsenal can secure a positive result against Manchester City or emerge victorious in the match, they undoubtedly have the potential to become champions.
