Sheffield Wednesday needs their supporters more than ever because they have a mountain to climb if they want to stay in the Championship this season.
In order to maintain Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship standing this season, manager Henrik Pedersen is adamant that the bond between his team and its supporters will be crucial.

The English Football League instantly docked the Owls 12 points after they were placed in administration on Friday. This means that after just 12 games, they are now on -6 and 16 points from safety.

The main reaction to Wednesday going into administration is relief because it has essentially signaled the end of Dejphon Chansiri’s rule, but it has also greatly raised the likelihood that Wednesday’s players will add relegation to their resumes—something that every football player, of course, wants to avoid at all costs.

As a result, Pedersen, who isn’t giving up on the Owls’ chances of surviving, has emphasized how crucial it is that fans support his team as much as they can, acknowledging that the upcoming months will not be simple.

“I think everyone knows it is a difficult situation and there will be some tough months,” Pedersen stated. “Even though we have zero points this week, it still indicates to me that we can compete with everyone, but every game will have challenging moments.

Pedersen: “We require the best possible support.” Because they encouraged us when we were feeling a little low, our fans today stuck by us during the challenging times as well. The lads will be up and down at different times, so we need them all the time.

“This relationship has to be top until the end of the season because we need top, top support – and today it was a really, really good beginning.”

More than 27,000 people flocked to Hillsborough for Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Oxford United, making it the largest home crowd the Owls have faced since Pedersen took over in the summer.

Pedersen was amazed by the environment created against the U’s after Wednesday night’s large boycott against Middlesbrough and other protests held in previous months.

“It was fantastic,” he continued. Since there haven’t been many [fans] for a very long time, you could sense that the vibe was different from what it is now.

“The environment was clean today. The atmosphere was upbeat. The mood was one of hope. The vibe today was considerably more Sheffield Wednesday.

“It was fantastic, and a fantastic support to the boys on the pitch.”
