The public has been reminded by Victor Osimhen of the reasons Chelsea was keen to sign him. As the Blues look to further bolster their attacking, the 25-year-old striker has been heavily linked to a move to Stamford Bridge for some time. It is understood that Chelsea wanted to sign Osimhen last summer, but the Italian giants were determined to hang onto their talisman, so Nicolas Jackson was signed from Villarreal. The Nigerian international was seen by the west Londoners as someone who could have ended the team’s goalless run, but any attempt to sign him proved challenging in the absence of Champions League qualification.

Although Chelsea is still far from finishing in the top four this year, football.london is aware that they are still interested in signing him. Naturally, the Blues should expect to face tough competition from some of the best teams, but Todd Boehly has shown he isn’t afraid to pay a little bit more than the going rate in order to secure his main target.

As of right now, it’s unclear if the west Londoners will try to sign the Nigerian player when the season ends. But his performance in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Barcelona will have served as a timely reminder of his qualities to Chelsea.

Osimhen gave Napoli an equalizer at the Diego Maradona Stadium, moments after Robert Lewandowski had given the Catalans the lead. Standing on the edge of Barcelona’s box, the Blues target showed off his incredible hold-up play by squaring off Inigo Martinez.

After making some space for himself, Osimhen received the ball on the half-turn and fired it past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. In the second leg at Camp Nou, his magical moment gave the Italian team a chance to salvage some pride.

James Carragher supported Osimhen’s departure from Napoli in the summer when he spoke on CBS Sports on Wednesday night. “Napoli is a club that he is not going to stay at for the rest of his career and he feels like he can go on to bigger and better things,” stated the former Liverpool defender.

“However, as soon as he signs a contract, he starts discussing his summer plans. It feels like a deal has been made by all parties, and I believe there is a buy-out clause for $100 million.

“I’ll sign a new contract, and my pay will skyrocket.” That’s understandable given what he did in the previous season, but if someone wants to do one in the summer, there is a deal there.

When Aurelio De Laurentiis said last month that the Italian team had always intended to profit from the striker, it caused some people to take notice. “We already knew it since last summer,” the president of Napoli stated.

“If not, the renewal negotiations would not have taken as long. We were aware that he would join the Premier League, Real Madrid, or Paris Saint-Germain.
