Arsenal made their first senior signing of the summer this week, so they are active in the transfer market.

After remaining mostly silent in the first few weeks of the transfer window, the Gunners have now officially signed Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori of Italy.

With deadline day drawing near and the several transfer dominoes starting to fall in unison, Arsenal will probably be active in the upcoming weeks.

The Gunners, who were deprived of vital points the previous season due to the absence of a No. 9 who could finish opportunities with clinical ease, may be in the market for a new center-forward.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, one striker that Arsenal has supposedly been watching is about to go on.

Roma has signed Artem Dovbyk, an Arsenal target.
The player in question is Artem Dovbyk of Girona, who represented Ukraine at Euro 2024 and had a fantastic La Liga season the previous season.

According to reports, Dovbyk’s help Girona qualify for the Champions League has sparked interest from Arsenal in signing him.

But now that Dovbyk has committed to Roma, Romano has said, “here we go,” claiming that player- and club-side negotiations are inappropriate.

On Wednesday night, the 27-year-old was the subject of two fast posts from the transfer insider.

Romano tweeted “here we go” in response to Dovbyk’s first tweet, indicating that the last elements of a sale worth €34 million (£28.6 million) plus add-ons were being worked out.

The rumoured target for Arsenal “only wanted AS Roma,” and on Thursday, he will travel to the Italian capital to sign a five-year contract.

An attacker like to Erling Haaland is lost to Arsenal
After one of Europe’s most prolific attackers chose to join a different team, Arsenal will need to continue their search for a replacement striker.

For the Gunners, Dovbyk would have been a terrific shout. He is a striker in the prime of his career, and he showed why Girona needed him last season when he scored an incredible 25 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions.

In a recent in-depth scouting report, Total Football Analysis asserted that Dobvyk is a player along the lines of Erling Haaland.

Although Artem Dovbyk is not the most up-to-date striker on the globe, his strengths—namely, his speed, strength, and ability to strike the ball well—fit Girona’s tactics nearly precisely. He also plays decent link-up play.

This makes him more akin to Erling Haaland than Harry Kane, for instance, but given Michel’s playing style, it is just who he should be.
