Demanded Despite almost joining Chelsea in the summer, Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has stated that he enjoys life at Villa Park and has acknowledged that he is enjoying his current matchup with Ollie Watkins.

With ten goals from just three starts in all competitions this season, the 20-year-old Colombian international has been in outstanding form for Unai Emery’s team.

However, despite his strong play, which included goals against Bayern Munich and most recently RB Leipzig in the Champions League, Duran has unable to unseat Watkins as Villa’s starting striker this year.

But the former forward for the Chicago Fire has stated that he is enjoying his current matchup with England international Watkins.

“I’m just happy to be here,” Duran remarked in an interview with the Aston Villa club website. I genuinely enjoy the rivalry I have with Ollie Watkins.

“I’ll step up when it’s my turn with the hopes of scoring and assisting the squad. As a team, we put in a lot of effort, and I’m responsible for scoring.

“I put a lot of effort into that, but the most important thing is to win three points away from home, and we did that today.

“We’re thrilled with our current position in the standings. We’re thrilled that we’re almost done and that we need to win the (next) game.”

Earlier this year, Chelsea made an attempt to recruit Duran from Villa; the Blues were permitted to speak with the player on personal terms. But a move never came to be, and Duran stayed at Villa Park despite West Ham’s late interest.

In October, Duran signed a new, long-term contract with Villa, committing to the team for the future.
